University of New Orleans to host 3 Day Startup this weekend

The University of New Orleans will host 3 Day Startup New Orleans, an entrepreneurship education program designed for college students with an emphasis on learning by doing. The event will be held this weekend, November 11th-13th, 2011.

The concept of 3 Day Startup is simple: start a technology company over the course of three days. Organizers rent work space for an entire weekend, recruit 40 students with a wide range of backgrounds, cater food and drinks, invite top-notch entrepreneurs and investors, pick the best idea for a software startup during a Friday brainstorming session and release a minimal prototype or minimum viable product by Sunday night. The goal is to build enough momentum among a network of motivated people to sustain the company beyond the weekend.

12 locally organized 3 Day Startup events in the United States and Europe have given rise to 14 companies receiving $4 million in funding. Seven 3 Day Startup-originated companies have been accepted to accelerator and incubator programs. For more information about 3 Day Startup New Orleans or to register for the program, visit http://neworleans.3daystartup.org/.

The event is still looking for experienced mentors to help out this weekend. If you have skills in entrepreneurship, software development, business, legal, marketing, or other fields drop a note to us on the Contact page and we’ll pass your info on to the organizer.
