HOW TO: Participate in a Twitter Chat

Last week I was asked by @StartupPrincess to join #startupchat as an expert on Facebook marketing which made me lol but of course I accepted and it ended up being a lot of fun! [Click here to read a recap of the chat.]

If you’ve never heard of it, a Twitter Chat is a pre-organized conversation that happens on Twitter via a set hashtag (such as #startupchat). Anyone can participate, but typically there is a moderator and/or “experts” asking or answering questions.

So how do you keep up with the conversation? Typically via a 3rd party host that allows you to post to twitter and shows you a streaming search of the #chat that you’re participating in. Here are a couple that I really like:

TweetChat: TweetChat helps put your blinders on to the Twitter-sphere while you monitor and chat about one topic.

Monitter
: Monitter is a real time twitter search tool that enables you to monitor a set of keywords on twitter. It also allows you to narrow the search to a particular geographic location, allowing you to find out what’s going on in a particular part of the world.

Thinking of joining a chat? Here are a few you might be into:

#b2bchat
Time: Thursdays at 7p.m. CST

#blogchat
Time: Sundays at 7p.m. CST

#startupchat
Time: Wednesdays at 1p.m. CST

If you’re looking for something more comprehensive – there’s a super overwhelming google doc that keeps track of all these.
