New Orleans genetics lab InnoGenomics has been awarded a grant of up to $1 million from the National Science Foundation. The company, based out of the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, is a solutions provider working towards optimizing a forensic DNA test. The grant money will help the company complete a prototype of their patented DNA identification test kits.

Since its founding in 2011, co-founders Dr. Sudhir Sinha and Anne Montgomery, leaders in human DNA identification, have been researching and developing these next-generation genetic testing solutions. Sudhir Sinha said the new technology would greatly impact crime scene investigation. It will take up to a year to complete the prototype, which was originally awarded $150,000 last year to research prior to its development.
