Forget the splash proof and water resistant speakers for your next fishing trip or day tubing down the river. One Mandeville company has designed the first environment-proof portable bluetooth speaker. Drytunes is a fully submersible, waterproof and dustproof, speaker system that plays music which can be heard above or below water.

The company uses some patented audio technology, such as their audio drivers, to build the speakers. Drytunes speakers themselves are patent-pending technology. The technology and custom designed user interface allows users to wirelessly connect through any bluetooth device. The over 400 cubic inches of internal dry storage can be used to store items such as keys, a camera or wallet.

CEO Michael Applebaum has teamed with Drytunes inventor and now CTO Aeron McKeough to bring the product to market in the first quarter of this year with help from their Kickstarter campaign.

The speaker system has been through several rounds of prototyping and real-world testing and is now ready for production. If the Kickstarter goal is met, the $50,000 will be used to purchase components in higher volumes as the company gears up for production in the Mandeville warehouse.

With 23 days to go, 54 backers have pledged $14,708 of the $50,000 goal.

Drytunes is also at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is Vegas through tomorrow. Catch them at Booth# 73409 at Eureka Park in The Venetian!
