80 New Orleans Neighborhoods are Already Using Social Network Nextdoor

NextdoorA statistic released in in 2011 reports that only 2% of peoples’ Facebook friends are neighbors, yet a more recent survey conducted by social network startup Nextdoor shows that nine out of 10 are willing to share with neighbors.

It was a combination of social networking and neighborhood facts that drove Nextdoor founders Nirav Tolia and Sarah Leary to launch the free and platform for people to use to communicate with neighbors.

Already more than 80 New Orleans neighborhoods use Nextdoor, and communicate about a variety of things such as finding trustworthy local resources, report suspicious activity and crime, organize neighborhood events, get assistance with lots pets or missing packages, and sell or give away items.

Nextdoor on the web and accompanying iPhone and Android apps is designed to make neighbors and neighborhoods more connected.

Founded in 2010, Nextdoor has raised $100 million in funding to date from Benchmark, Greylock Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Tiger Global Management, Allen & Company, Google Ventures and others.
