New Orleans STEM Initiative to Hold Annual ‘Strike for STEM’ Fundraiser

Core ElementFor the last few years, Core Element, the non-profit that promotes quality teaching in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), has hosted a fundraiser to benefit the organization. The fourth annual ‘Strike for STEM’ event will take place on November 1st at Rock ‘n’ Bowl in Mid City.

Core Element operates as a regional collaborative between K-12, higher education, economic development, and business and industry institutions with missions to improve math and science in schools.

“Core Element supports the philosophy that the most effective classroom teaching is student-centered,” said board president David Huete. “Core Element’s focus is to provide teachers with the tools and training to create interactive, discovery-based education for students to stimulate their interest in the applications of science, technology and math and provide a STEM-focused career pathway for the innovations of the future.”

The disco-themed event will be sponsored by Schlumberger, a leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas industry.

“Schlumberger is excited to champion Core Element’s fundraiser Strike for STEM and to support its innovative programs to provide interactive professional development opportunities for teachers that enhance the education of children in the region,” said Charlie Vise, Corporate Accounts Director for Schlumberger.
