Teen Tech Day Prepares for 7th Year Impacting Youth in STEM

Teen Tech Day is the annual one-day event that introduces New Orleans area youth ages 13-17 to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The event will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Delgado Community College.

The main focus of Teen Tech Day is to spark interest in technology and inject the arts and bridge creativity to allow our youth to explore all the opportunities imaginable in technology. “We work to provide interactive and fun environments that encourage exploration as well as resources to further the youth of Greater New Orleans success,” shared Shercole King, organizer of Teen Tech Day.

The first annual Teen Tech Day hosted 16 students and increased the number of attendees to 60 in 2016.

This year’s workshops focus on web design, game development, social media, digital fabrication, podcasting, and design thinking.

King continued, “I just want to aid in providing opportunities for our kids to get exposure to STEM and all type of possibilities same as what was allotted to me, they are our future and it’s up to us to ensure they are giving the tools to begin the work to be successful and make decisions for the future.”

Teen Tech Day is made possible by its sponsors: 365 Connect, Delgado, New Orleans Women in Tech (WIT), and Fab Lab Nola.
