Startup St. Bernard Awards Over $120,000 to Reactive Digital Systems

Startup St. Bernard is a pitch competition jointly hosted by the Meraux Foundation and the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation. The competition is open to any business that agreed to locate their base of operations to St. Bernard Parish, help improve St. Bernard Parish, and become part of the St. Bernard Parish entrepreneur ecosystem.

The five finalists pitched last week to a panel of judges in a TED Talks-style presentation during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW), the local festival celebrating innovation, business, and advanced thinking.

“This year’s Startup St. Bernard was very competitive. Each of the finalists presented excellent business ideas,” said Andrew Jacques, Executive Director of the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation.

On Monday of NOEW, a day full of pitch competitions of all types, the judges announced that Reactive Digital Systems won Startup St. Bernard. The startup won a prize package of cash an in kind services valued at more than $120,000.

Reactive Digital Systems is in the augmented reality education space and produces TopoBox, an educational instrument that projects an augmented micro-reality on a “sand box” that users can manipulate.

“I would like to congratulate Reactive Digital Systems on winning Startup St. Bernard,” said Rita Gue, president of the Meraux Foundation. “Their product will further help position St. Bernard Parish as a leader in water education. The TopoBox is already helping students in the region understand the Mississippi River system and the role our coast plays in reducing storm surge. We’re proud that this technology will be built in St. Bernard Parish and exported around the world.”

Other finalists included Crescent City Seafood Connection, Da Parish Kayaks, Functional Health and Wellness LLC, and Leduc Entertainment.
