Help Bring Free Wi-Fi to Underserved Residents in Central City

Global Shapers New Orleans and Operation Spark have teamed up to bring free Wi-Fi to underserved areas of the city, beginning with Central City. The ongoing project, SparkNet, currently needs funding to purchase equipment.

On Thursday, May 18, the organizations will be hosting a Cheers for Charity event at The Rusty Nail. Twenty percent of proceeds will go directly to the project.

The mission of Global Shapers is to build a global community of outstanding young people committed to improving the state of the world. The Global Shapers Community is a network of over 450 international hubs designed to target and engage emerging leaders under 30. Since launching as an initiative of the World Economic Forum five years ago, there are now over 5,700 members around the world. Global Shapers New Orleans is a group developed and led by young people who want to make a positive impact on the local community.

Operation Spark is a non-profit that is rapidly changing lives by preparing people for high-wage employment in software development. The coding school was launched several years ago to target at-risk youth, and has since expanded programming to reach more members of the community. The organization connects program graduates with opportunities from entry-level internships to full time careers as software engineers.
