Louisiana Ranks #5 for Software Employment Growth

In a recent report by Software.org ranking software employment growth from 2014 to 2016, Louisiana comes in at the number five spot.

The only states ranking higher than Louisiana for software employment growth in the same time frame are Kansas, Indiana, Mississippi, and Idaho, respectively.

Over those two years, Louisiana increased its software employment by almost 22 percent.

“Louisiana’s rapidly growing software industry employed 11,694 people in 2016 and had a $1.5 billion impact on the state’s economy, according to the study, which describes the industry as ‘a powerful spark’ nationally,” shared Michael Hecht, CEO of Greater New Orleans, Inc. “Louisiana’s software industry further generated 20,533 indirect jobs in 2016, and software companies invested $22 million in research and development, 6.2% of Louisiana’s total R&D spending.”
