New Orleans-Based Food Startup Wins National Innovation Award

Retail brand Beyond the Equator, launched by Supreme Specialty Foods just last year, has won an award for its innovative product made from superfoods. The company was recently awarded the Best New Product sofi™ Award for its 5 Seed Butter from the Specialty Food Association.

Sofi™ stands for “specialty outstanding food innovation.” The product is a low sugar, allergen-friendly peanut butter alternative made from sunflower, chia, flax, pumpkin, and hemp seeds.

Beyond the Equator shared the 5 Seed Butter was selected by a national panel of specialty food experts from more than 3,000 entries across 39 awards categories.

The 5 Seed Butter is now in more than 30 locations throughout Louisiana. “Our mission is to bring superfoods to consumers by integrating them into commonly known, everyday use products without sacrificing on flavor,” says Kevin Bratcher, co-founder of Beyond the Equator. “Nutrition and taste can coexist in the same product and many of our competitors have sacrificed one or the other, something we never plan on doing.”
