A Roundup of STEM Summer Camps in Louisiana

There are several summer camps throughout Louisiana this year focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Seven of them are sponsored by energy company Chevron, which regularly promotes STEM education and invests in the next generation’s workforce.

“Each camp varies in activities provided, target age groups and prices, ensuring every student can find a camp that suits them,” shared a representative for Chevron.

Here are all of the STEM camps Chevron is sponsoring this summer, courtesy of the company:

National Society of Black EngineersJune 10th – 28th. Summer Engineering Experience for Kids New Orleans: 3rd – 5th grade campers work in teams to solve problems and create products while discovering the underlying math and science principles. Each week, the kids take on a new project, culminating with a presentation and design competition.

1881 Institute of TechnologyJune 3rd – 28th. 4th – 8th grade students take engineering courses and engage in projects for our industry partners as they participate in 1881’s Teen Career campheld for 7 weeks. Courses include math, mechanical dissection, electronics, English, and computer aided design.

Terrebonne Foundation for Academic ExcellenceJune 10th – 14th. The Girls Who Code Summer Camp is a one-week camp that will allow girls the opportunity to learn STEM skills and about careers in the technology field. This 5-day summer camp focuses on immersing girls in grades 6-9 with STEM-related lessons, programs, and motivation.

Delgado Community College FoundationJune 3rd – 28th. Delgado Community College will provide a unique and innovative experience for rising 9th and 10th grade African-American males who participate in the 2019 Inspiration to Innovation Summer Program (I2SP). Delgado’s 2019 I2SP seeks to spark interest in STEM occupations through academic enrichment and networking opportunities with STEM professionals.

STEM NOLASession 1: May 27th – 31st, session 2: June 3rd – 7th, session 3: June 17th – 21st, session 4: June 24th – 28th, session 5: July 8th – 12th. The week-long hands-on STEM camps will explore coding, robotics, 3D printing, and more! Each camp will allow students to engage in project-based tech instruction where they will learn computer science and coding principles while developing critical soft skills.

Bayou Civic ClubJune 3rd – August 2nd (with a break during July 4th week). Children participate in daily STEM-related activities along with swimming, library visits, arts and crafts, sports and more.

LUMCONJune 24th – June 28th. Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium’s Estuarine Awareness & Discovery (LEAD) Camp is a weeklong residential camp designed to give science-minded high-school students a chance to explore Louisiana’s coastal environment as scientists.
