CoHab Labs, the Shreveport coworking space for entrepreneurs, and the South Coast Angel Fund are presenting a workshop in Shreveport open to the public on angel investing. The event is Thursday, October 13th, 2011 and includes lunch.
In the start-up world, “Angels” are early stage investors who typically offer expertise, experience and contacts in addition to money, to help companies succeed and grow. Angels typically receive equity in the company, similar to a venture capital deal. Well known public angel investors include Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Rose, and Tim Ferriss. Many other investors and publicly known investments are listed on Angel List.
Start-ups such as Twitter, Foursquare, and About.me relied heavily on angel investment for their initial funding. In Louisiana, the angel investor tax credit provides up to a 35% tax credit for angel investments in Louisiana companies that create jobs.
The Shreveport workshop will cover the great environment Louisiana has for Angel Investing and how it can be harnessed by both investors and companies. The workshop is sponsorerd by CoHabitat, the Louisiana Technology Council, NLEP, the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, and the South Coast Angel Fund.
The South Coast Angel Fund is a member-managed angel capital fund whose mission is to invest in, mentor, and support entrepreneurial, early-stage companies, primarily within Louisiana and the Gulf Coast community.
