In conjunction with the upcoming Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week, the Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) is hosting a Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day student expo and speaker series on November 15th, 2011 in Baton Rouge. The event focuses on student entrepreneurs, with keynote addresses from Catherine Cook, founder of MyYearbook.com and Daniel Gomez, founder of biofuel company, Solben. Attendees will learn what entrepreneurs at Louisiana State University are up to, how to juggle classes and a multimillion dollar company, and get inspiration from Cook and Gomez.
A finalist in the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards for 2010, Catherine Cook co-founded MyYearbook with her brother David in 2005, while the two were still in high school. Catherine was the creative force behind MyYearbook’s most popular features as the site grew into a hugely popular brand. The Cooks recently sold the social networking site for $100 million dollars, and will stay on to steer the company’s global expansion. Catherine Cook will represent the United States at the G20 Young Entrepreneurship Summit this year, Oct. 31– Nov. 2 in Nice, France.
Gomez will also be at the Young Entrepreneurship Summit, representing his native Mexico. Gomez started the biofuels company Solben, and is concentrating its growth in Mexican market currently, but has ambitions to tap into the vast global energy market. Solben company earned over $1 million in revenue in its first year of business. Gomez was a finalist at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in 2010; he has been featured in Forbes Magazine- How to Make $1 Million Before You Graduate and listed as one of Inc. Magazine’s 30 under 30.
The November Louisiana Entrepreneurship Day will be held on November 15, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at LSU in Baton Rouge. Admission is free but advanced registration is required at http://laentday.eventbrite.com/.
