After digging deep into the latest U.S. Census data, Business Insider released their list of the 20 American Cities And Counties That Could Be The Next Silicon Valley. Two Louisiana parishes made the list: Ascension Parish at No. 5 and Lafourche Parish at No. 10.
The metropolitan areas on the list met certain demographic requirements for a promising technology economy. These factors included a high level of broadband accessibility, a sizable workforce, a lively local economy, and the presence of a small college or university. Each location has unemployment rates as much as five points below the national average and the top five, including Ascension Parish, have a broadband availability rate of 100 percent.
