Social entrepreneurs are passionate people with creative solutions to society’s most important social problems. SENO has been working nonstop to help smart, innovative community members create solutions to social and/or environmental problems in New Orleans. The 2012 Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans (SENO) Gala will help recognize and celebrate the social entrepreneurs and their accomplishments in the city.
The Gala will also help SENO accomplish their 2012 – 2014 goals:
- Sustain the 2013 SENO Accelerator for 15 social entrepreneurs. In 2011, for every $10,000 investment, Accelerator social entrepreneurs have generated $150,000 in external investment and revenues while in the Accelerator.
- Development of a two-story, 10,000 sq. ft. social innovation incubator called HUB NOLA to open doors in August 2012.
- Support and convene over 500 social entrepreneurs city-wide in our workshop series, gap-analysis summits, and social innovation pitch competitions.
On Thursday May 17, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, SENO’s network of supporters, funders, social entrepreneurs, volunteers, business leader mentors, and corporations will be present for the event. The event will be held at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum and will include great entertainment, delicious food and beverages, and a silent auction.
SENO hopes to keep improving upon the social and environmental issues the city faces. Since June of last year, SENO’s class of nine fellows have collectively:
- Launched new financially sustainable organizations to solve pressing social/environmental needs
- Created 30 new jobs
- Brought in $2.5 million in external financing and revenues combined
- Been featured in The NY Times, the Times-Picayune, and New Orleans City Business.
- Started with just a concept or as the only (or unpaid) employee in their company.
