The Green Natties: Honoring and Rewarding Local Green Businesses

After a local competition, dubbed The Green Games, companies and businesses around the city will come together to celebrate the achievements at an award ceremony. The event is co-sponsored by Natural Awakenings Magazine, the New Orleans Chamber Foundation, and LifeCityThe Green Natties: First Annual Sustainable Business Awards is tonight, honoring and rewarding the most successful and most improved companies participating in the 2012 Green Games. Throughout the games, companies have improved their social and environmental impact.

The ceremony will recognize businesses from five sectors: restaurant, office, manufacturing, retail and nonprofit; two awards will be given: Most Improved and Best Overall. Additionally, one business will be recognized across sectors for Innovation, Partnership, Profit-Strategy, and Equity. The Natties, the physical awards, are pieces of art made from recycled materials.

There were a few simple goals for the Green Games:

  • Support organizations in reducing costs while reducing their ecological footprint / increasing social impact through a business assessment and consultation and final evaluation.
  • Recognize and reward organizations who are making the effort to be socially and environmentally responsible and provide them with greater exposure
  • Improve the long-term health and vitality of Louisiana

“The Green Natties is our chance to show the rest of the city the boundless possibilities of green business,” says Founder and CSO of LifeCity, LLC, who organized all business assessments for the Competition.

The Green Natties will begin with a Patron Party from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the award ceremony will officially kick off at 7:30 pm. Tickets are still available for purchase here.
