Startup Weekend recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists for a 54 hour event that builds communities, companies and projects. It is an opportunity for busy yet brilliant people to connect with other passionate and skilled individuals and bring an idea to life in startup form. The event takes place in many cities over the year.
Startup Weekends are extremely hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can put their startup ideas to the test and find out if the ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds.
The event begins on June 1st, 2012 with open mic pitches at the Central Louisiana Business Incubator. Over Saturday and Sunday teams design and develop business plans while communicating and streamlining their startup vision. On Sunday evening teams demo their prototypes, listen to judges’ feedback and in some cities, win prizes.
Startup Weekends are specifically designed for entrepreneurs interested in receiving feedback on an idea, looking for a co-founder, or who want to learn a new skill. One giant benefit to attending a Startup Weekend is that the events are always risk-free environments to test an idea.
