CODEMKRS: The Super Bowl Hackathon

CODEMKRSTravis Laurendine, the founder of Volnado, had an idea: create a hackathon around the 2013 Super Bowl to showcase New Orleans’ tech community and all it has to offer.  He teamed up with Jeremy Cooker and the Super Bowl Host Committee to create CODEMKRS.

CODEMKRS is a two-day hackathon that will work night and day at Peter Mayer’s headquarters to build web apps that will be deployed Super Bowl weekend to help visitors have the best New Orleans experience possible.  The event seeks ideas for developers, designers, and idea people to make into a reality.  Some of the ideas currently being tossed around are: Real-Time Restaurant Wait Time Apps, Streetcar/Transit Finder for linking up with Friends, Digital Tip Jar for Musicians – Live Streaming from Nola and In person, and a Traffic/Street Closure Alert with Crowd Sourced realtime Updates from Police and Citizens.

The Super Bowl Host Committee is the official prize sponsor for the SUPER Challenge and developers can expect over-the-top prizes such as a ticket to the big game, official memorabilia, passes to exclusive parties, dinners at the finest restaurants, nights at top hotels, live music, and more!  Louisiana Technology Council, Launchpad, Silicon Bayou News, Capdeville and more are sponsoring the event, which takes place January 11-13 at Peter Mayer’s headquarters at 324 Camp Street.

Travis tells SBN that if the event goes well, this aims to be a legacy event that will follow the Super Bowl to all future cities.  Check out the CODEMKRS site here or sign up for the event here.
