Codemkrs and Unawkward Team up for Super Block Party with 1,000 Pounds of Crawfish

Codemkrs, the 48-hour hackathon which took place a few weekends ago, launched a number of apps that were designed to help Super Bowl weekend run more smoothly. One of the apps that came out of the hackathon was CrawFinder, an app for locating crawfish boils for this weekend and beyond. Gerard Ramos was on the CrawFinder team; his company, Unawkward, is planning to host a giant crawfish boil, Super Block Party, tomorrow afternoon.

Without the CrawFinder app, this event still would have happened, just not to this scale, said Ramos. With only a few days of planning under their belts, the event is expected to bring in a few hundred guests. The more SBN readers spread the word, the more awesome people will show up!

The first 100 people to show up will get this t-shirt.

Event registration is $25, which covers the cost of 1,000 pounds of Crawfish and other goodies such as a truck loaded full of kegs and the jazz bandstand Mardi Gras float that will be rolling through the event on the way to a parade. Additionally, NFL Films reached out to the organizers after the Codemkrs event and will have a crew on site to cover local tech and experiences.

The proceeds are all being donated to Team Gleason. The organizers are all, “really excited about raising money for Team Gleason.”

Finn McCools, Mid City Yacht Club, and Rock-N-Bowl have all stepped up with donations. Sponsors are still welcome to donate by contacting Unawkward.

As for the future, Ramos says a Codemkrs and Unawkward collaboration might happen again in the spring. “Watching all the apps created during Codemkrs evolve has been really impressive,” he said. “Unawkward will be rolling out nationally and releasing the next version of the platform with an iPhone app in the spring.”
