Chocolate-based toothpaste may sound crazy, but one local company is changing the way we handle oral care forever. Theodent uses chocolate/cocoa-based ingredients which work better at lower concentrations than fluoride. They have three products available right now: Theodent Classic, Theodent 300, and Theodent Kids.

The company was founded by leaders in the bioscience industry who believe it is best to work with the top people in their area of expertise to push the boundaries of conventional thought.

Theodent is thrilled to have launched the first commercial product from the New Orleans BioInnovation center. Company CEO Arman Sadeghpour said, “Having Theodent on the market is like a musical artist hearing their song on the radio for the first time. It’s an incredible feeling to know that we are the innovators and thought leaders in this area.”

The company has successfully closed its most recent round of funding, but the numbers have yet to be disclosed to SBN.

Sadeghpour shared some of his thoughts about the company’s challenges and how it feels to be called, “revolutionary,” as also noted in a few other publications.

Sadeghpour said, “Our biggest challenge has been keeping the quality of Theodent high and keeping production costs low. Theodent is the absolute best toothpaste formulation on the market and our brand exudes that…KPMG did a study of competitive business tax structure of states. Based on several categories of state and local tax burdens on new firms, Louisiana came in as the lowest cost state…”

He continued, “Our technology is truly revolutionary and we are humbled and honored to be the stewards of it. The impact of this technology is bigger than all of us and will be a legacy around which the city of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana will ultimately gain worldwide acclaim.”

Theodent currently works out of the New Orleans BioInnovation Center, a hub for bioscience companies in Louisiana. Sadeghpour believes Louisiana is the most fertile ground in the United States right now for Biotech. He is grateful for Louisiana Economic Development’s investment in Biotechnology, prompting the multimillion dollar incubator.

The future for Theodent looks bright. They plan to continue to grow their line and are planning to make a very exciting announcement at the American Dental Association National conference in New Orleans in early November 2013.
