After a quick change to the lineup, Idea Village representatives shared a new addition for Thursday’s lineup of speakers, billionaire investor Jim Coulter. Coulter is a founding member of TPG Capital, a leading global private investment firm with over $54B of capital. He will fill in for scheduled speaker Dana Mauriello, Director of New Business Opportunities at Etsy, who is under the weather.
Coulter is deeply involved in the Idea Village and the entrepreneurial ecosystem in New Orleans. He was interviewed in Forbes last year after about the entrepreneurial climate and how it is taking off. After marrying a local, Coulter became invested in the climate here and even created an event at NOEW, the Coulter Challenge IDEApitch, taking place tomorrow afternoon. The event features the IDEAcorps MBA team presentations, Senator Landrieu’s IDEA Exchange Roundtable luncheon, and culminates with the IDEApitch, featuring Audiosocket, Bioceptive, ChapterSpot, and Tutti Dynamics.
In the Forbes interview, Coulter said, “What’s cool about it, is that the community is realizing that entrepreneurship can be a driving force here. Entrepreneurs and investors in the community are all coming together in that virtuous ecosystem that’s really required for companies like these to exist.”
