Four Finalists Announced for LSU Student Incubator’s Venture Challenge

LSUThe LSU Student Incubator, a program of the Louisiana Business & Technology Center (LBTC) in Baton Rouge, is preparing for its second annual Venture Challenge. Four finalists will pitch for $25,000 in seed capital on April 19th, 2013.

LBTC and the Incubator are looking to support early growth stage startups. Only current members of the Incubator who own more than 50% of the venture were considered for the Challenge.

“By giving students access to seed capital, this event is instrumental in retaining university graduates in Louisiana and creating jobs for the community,” said Charlie D’Agostino, Executive Direction of LBTC.

18 teams submitted business plans in hopes to make it to the final round. 15 judges, consisting of local business professionals and entrepreneurs, made up the panel that evaluated and scored the plans. The chose four teams for the final competition on the 19th:

  • Econofy – Outlet-level control and electricity monitoring accessible from anywhere – paired with an interactive energy efficient shopping guide so you can econofy your home or office.
  • Frosted – A modernized gourmet cupcakery in the LSU area that is ready to branch out with a contemporary cupcake truck and cutting-edge vending machines.
  • Rock Water – The only doctor formulated drink designed to aid in kidney stone prevention.
  • Supedup Auto LLC – A mobile automobile cleaning and detailing services company serving local businesses as well as residential customers in Louisiana.

Registration for the Venture Challenge is free to the public and open through April 19th, 2013. There will be a cocktail/awards reception following the pitches where the winners will be announced so stick around!
