Tomorrow kicks off the whimsical and exciting annual event, the Storybook Ball. It’s hosted by the non-profit Family Road and will be tomorrow, May 18, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Adult activities include a sweepstakes with a Dream Kids Giveaway package, a live auction, music, food and drinks. One special auction is catching the attention of football fans throughout Louisiana.
“The idea was inspired by a hilarious video that appears on YouTube where comedian Louis C.K. auctions off a similar family photo card with Al Pacino,” said Manuel F. Valencia, Vice President of Strategy at Excelerant.
Louisiana’s version of this celebrity is Louisiana State University’s football coach Les Miles. The winner of the auction will shock family and friends when Miles appears in their holiday card. He and the organizers are excited to have Miles as the auction item at the gala. The auction is one of many ways the organizers are keeping community engagement high.
“Family Road and the members of their board are always looking for new, fun and exciting ways to engage the community in the organization and support of their programs,” Valencia explained. “This is just one example of how they look to do that.”
Family Road is instilling creativity in the young, according to Valencia. He believes is the key to develop the community in the long run.
The organizers kept technology in mind when planning and promoting the event. They used social media as their primary promotion, used electronic ticketing, and planned the entire ball virtually. In previous years, planning was done in a more traditional, non virtual ways. Additionally, Valencia says they are researching options now for a dedicated online auction site so those who cannot attend can bid after the ball.
