Applications for the 2014 Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Delgado Community College are now being accepted. The early-stage business classes offer updated programming designed for business owners who have successfully launched a scalable business.

Those accepted into the competitive program will learn to create and execute a plan for growth, identify and evaluate opportunities, understand financial statements, hire, retain and lead employees, and negotiate successfully.

According to Carla Coury, 10,000 Small Businesses executive director, the success of the first classes and the noticeable demand from the local entrepreneurial community encouraged organizers to kick off the next cohort, launching in February 2014.

To date, Delgado has served 174 small business owners in the region.

“The future of New Orleans and the heart of the economy are being built by an educated workforce that includes small business owners who live, work and raise families here,” said Chancellor Sullivan. “The 10,000 Small Businesses program at Delgado empowers these entrepreneurs with the skill set to go along with the mindset for growing a successful business.”

Delgado also works with local community and national organizations to encourage applications to the program. Local partners include Hope Enterprise Corporation, Greater New Orleans Inc., The Idea Village, the Louisiana Small Business Development Center, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, and area chambers of commerce.
