New Orleans Women in Technology (WIT) was started in 2013 with a goal to get more local women into higher paying jobs. In keeping with that goal, the organization has opened up registration for a new WordPress workshop aimed at teaching small business owners how to build their own websites.
The workshop will be hosted at the Propeller social entrepreneurship incubator on April 5 from 10am-2pm.
Wendy Dolan of Get Online NOLA will instruct attendees, along with a team of coaches, through building websites through the easy-to-use WordPress platform. No prior knowledge is needed to go from no site to website in just a few hours.
“It’s no secret that New Orleans is a hub of entrepreneurship in the country,” explains WIT founder Torrie Adams. “We are a tight-knit community of entrepreneurs and small businesses that loves and supports the little guy, and keeps our money local. But in the technology era, over 80% of consumers consult the Internet before they buy goods or services, and if your business isn’t online, you’re missing out on a large amount of business.”
Adams says this is why WIT has teamed with Get Online NOLA to provide the training to get more businesses online and empower women to build and maintain websites without forking over thousands of dollars to a “tech guy”.
Free registration for the workshop will remain open through March 20th at www.neworleanswit.org. The workshop is open to women, men, and teens, and only requires that you bring your own laptop.
