The ceremony will honor millennials in more than 20 different categories, including Business, Law, Finance, Healthcare, Culinary Arts and Changemaker. All nominations are submitted online by the public and judged by a panel of other local millennials.
Event organizer Spears Consulting Group says the awards are a key part of the Social Renaissance Series. “Its mission is to recognize the achievements and diversity of the millennial generation across the region. The continuation of this tradition is expected to attract more young leaders to the city and raise awareness of New Orleans as a destination rich with opportunity.”
Notable recipients of last year’s awards include Trombone Shorty, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite, filmmaker John Richie, Son of a Saint founder Bivian “Sonny” Lee, III, and New Orleans Business Alliance Vice President Melissa Ehlinger.
“Something new that we are introducing this year and we are most excited about is our new Millennial Restaurant Competition,” said Cleveland Spears, III, producer of the Millennial Awards. New Orleans restaurants will compete for the designation of the official Millennial Restaurant destination of 2014, which will be determined by an audience vote.
Immediately following the Awards Show is a Post Party featuring live performances from the electric soul band The Honorable South and the Queen of Bounce Big Freedia.
