American Business Women’s Association Celebrates One Year in New Orleans

American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) Crescent City Connections Express Network is celebrating one year since its official charter.

The organization is hosting two upcoming events: a Leadership Conference on October 8 and a Networking Happy Hour on September 22. The conference will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 with a networking reception to follow.

Organizers say they have accomplished a lot in the first year, including hosting eleven successful educational luncheons, gaining over 60 active members, starting a scholarship fund, and partnering with Dress for Success to collect goods for local professional women who need a little help.

Rachel Nunez of Regions Bank says the Dress for Success cause is near and dear to her heart. “As a Katrina victim and evacuee, I was in a strange city living in a hotel setting up interviews to make a fresh start. With no vehicle, low funds, and all my possessions fitting in a gym bag, I relied heavily on thrift stores and other nonprofits to provide essential clothing along with professional attire for my interviews. Now that we’re all back on our feet, we have the opportunity to give other women support.”

ABWA also launched a website which has more info on what they have been up to.

The group hosts monthly educational luncheons on topics ranging from “Crafting the Perfect Elevator Pitch” to “Women and Wealth” and “Avoiding Common Networking Mistakes.”
