Video Game Documentary Screening at New Orleans Film Festival

The critically-acclaimed documentary film, Thank You For Playing, will be screening this Sunday October 18 at Canal Place as part of the New Orleans Film Festival.

Thank You For Playing documentaryThe film follows Ryan Green, an indie video game developer who’s building a poetic and artful video game called “That Dragon, Cancer” about his terminally-ill son, Joel.

“This moving documentary is both a portrait of a family living through a trying time, and a behind-the-scenes look at the way a work of art informed by tragedy takes shape in real time,” explains the synopsis written by Rachel Lazar, programming assistant at the festival.

Thank You For Playing examines how we process grief through technology in the twenty-first century and the implications of documenting profound human experiences in a new artistic medium: the video game.

There will be an additional screening on Thursday October 22 at the Prytania Theater. Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Malika Zouhali-Worrall.
