The New Orleans BioInnovation Center, a business incubator for life sciences companies, has announced the four finalists selected for the annual BioChallenge for emerging startups.
Companies were eligible if they are developing a technology in the life sciences, such as biotechnology, healthcare, environmental science, advanced materials, or other industries.
Finalists will pitch at a public event for a chance to win $25,000. The pitch event takes place following the Center’s annual Innovation Louisiana life sciences entrepreneurship conference taking place November 16-17. It will also coincide with the 2015 Louisiana University Technology Showcase.
Meet the four finalists below:
BioAesthetics is improving reconstruction options for breast cancer patients after they undergo mastectomies. The startup’s novel graft allows a patient’s body to regenerate a nipple-areolar complex.
Flux is revolutionizing the rapid diagnosis of various diseases. Initially targeting dengue fever, the startup is developing low cost in-vitro diagnostic tests with a unique detection system and multiplex technology.
InnoGenomics is developing innovative genetic testing solutions that solve crimes and save lives. Their technology can be used to detect and monitor cancer through a minimally invasive blood test.
Zenopharm aims to treat and prevent breast cancer recurrence more effectively. Compared to current treatments, the team’s new drug will reduce adverse side effects, increase treatment adherence, and reduce the risk of recurrence.
To date, BioChallenge finalists have raised over $11 million in funding to develop pioneering health and environmental technologies.
