AT&T Provides Technology Training to Veterans in Southeast Louisiana

AT&T of Southeast Louisiana celebrated Veterans Day with digital gifts for the New Orleans Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 8973), LG G Pad compact Android tablets. The Post’s new tablets aid returning veterans in their job searches and strengthen their digital literacy.

“There are about 20 VFW posts across Southeast Louisiana, but VFW Post 8973 is the only post in New Orleans,” said Marshall Hevron, VFW member and former Marine.  “AT&T’s tablet donation and digital literacy training are important to our ongoing activities like resume-writing workshops, legal clinics, and seminars on navigating Veteran’s Administration claims.  We’re proud to call AT&T a partner. This donation will mean a great deal to our growing post and the veterans.”

AT&T also taught veterans about Digital You, a new program that offers tools, tips, apps, guidance and community education for a safer and securer online experience.

The Post had only around five members 10 years ago, and membership is now up to over 200.  As membership grows, so does the need for more resources.

“Our men and women in uniform come back from their tour of duty often in need of some additional assistance, and in today’s world a mobile device and Internet access can help connect them to that assistance,” said Representative Neil Abramson. “You can use them to search for employment, to keep in touch with fellow veterans, and to aid with many day to day activities.”
