AT&T has announced that homes, apartments and small businesses in 38 additional metro areas across the United States will soon have access to the high-speed GigaPower network. Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes, as well as areas across the Northshore, are a few of the metro areas scheduled to receive the service.
This week marks over one million locations passed, and AT&T plans to more than doubling the footprint by the end of 2016. 56 metro areas are now served, with 18 currently live areas.
AT&T GigaPower gives customers some of the fastest online speeds available anywhere with Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second. The company says that customers can download 25 songs in less than a second, a TV show in three seconds or a favorite HD movie in less than 36 seconds.
“We’re proud to announce our plans to bring Internet speed up to 1 gigabit per second in Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes and throughout the Northshore, where we will offer ultra-high speeds to local consumers and employers in the area,” said Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana.“The AT&T GigaPower network will help encourage economic development in the area by facilitating a new wave of innovation through enhanced opportunities for education, health, research and small business growth.”
AT&T has served Louisiana for over 136 years and has invested more than $1 billion in Louisiana’s wireline and wireless networks from 2012 through 2014 to provide Louisiana consumers, schools and businesses.
St. Tammany Parish President, Pat Brister, says she is excited AT&T GigaPower is coming to the area. “Private industry continues to respond to consumer demand, and this is a great example of the type investments that I look forward to seeing more of across southeast Louisiana as we continue our rebuilding efforts and encourage investment in our region post-Hurricane Katrina.”
