New App Shows You Where to Get Seafood in New Orleans

A new app, Seafood Locator, has launched to help users locate seafood around the United States.

New Orleans-based founder Sheldon Williams considers the platform a portable marketing and advertising engine that you hold in the palm of your hand because it focuses on highlighting businesses in the seafood industry through niche marketing.

“Through our application, our vendors and their potential customers have the opportunity to connect and build relationship via our Seafood Locator platform,” said Williams.

Vendors can also feature what makes them unique, in addition to hours, price, or any special promotions. The pricing, data and availability of seafood is all shown in real time.

Williams launched the app to help businesses in the industry rebound from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.

“The seafood industry has provided sustenance for my family for years. However, they do it the old-fashioned way. They catch, sell and then give their surplus to the community,” explained Williams. “Since the oil spill, the once fluid seafood industry has faced some rough water. I’m hoping the Seafood Locator will help fishermen and customers connect in a more innovative way.”

The app is available for download via iTunes or Google play stores. Since launching, the app has received positive reviews for both iOS and Android devices.

The Seafood Locator App will be on display at the Silicon Bayou Startup Showcase next Thursday, March 17 during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week.
