Treme’s Bienville Basin has added a technology center to its residential apartments. The Bienville Basin Technology Center, which opened yesterday, includes classrooms, a computer center, and a Wi-Fi enabled outdoor technology garden.
“The new Bienville Basin’s residential apartments have brought significant advances in the quality of life for both new and longtime residents,” said Tom Leonhard, HRI Properties President and CEO. “Now in addition to the existing amenities, the technology and computer center, powered by Dell, brings an entirely new level of opportunities for residents, providing a path to close the digital divide.”
The addition is part of the transformation of the mixed-income housing project to include computer access for all, educational and workforce training, and computer literacy development. The center is equipped with 18 new desktop computers, 20 Chromebook laptops with docking carts.
“Now we can respond with a resounding yes, when residents ask, ‘Is there a computer I can use?’” said Urban Strategies’ Interim Operations Director, Lisa Green-Derry.
