New Orleans Treatment Center is Using Technology to Combat Opioid Epidemic

In response to the nationwide opioid abuse epidemic, Dependency Pain Treatment Centers (DPTC) has opened several outpatient medical clinics in the area.

The Center is using advances in smartphone technology to reduce the amount of time it takes to get addiction treatment, helping those suffering from opioid use disorder, or what they call “Dependency Pain.”

According to Trust for America’s Health, the number of deaths caused by painkiller overdose in Louisiana has tripled since 1999. The nationwide number of people who abuse opioid prescriptions is approximately two million.

There are currently four DPTC locations: Metairie, New Orleans, Kenner and Marrero. Their proprietary program combines medication-assisted treatment, behavioral therapy, and smartphone technology at each of their locations.

“We have brought together leading minds in pain management and addiction medicine to create a quality solution to the opioid epidemic,” said Dan Forman, CEO of Dependency Pain Treatment Centers. “This team realized that New Orleans was missing an effective and efficient option for patients seeking medical treatment for their dependency on pain medication and other substances.”
