New Orleans-based Electric Girls is on a mission to transform girls into technology leaders through various STEM-focused programming. They recently received a $2,500 grant from the Society for Science & the Public to advance the organization.
Electric Girls is the recipient of one of the STEM Action Grants alone with four other organizations. Through those grants and the STEM Research Grants awarded by the Society for Science, a total of $120,000 was given to innovative non-profits and science research teachers.
“It is more important than ever that we recognize and support grassroots organizations using creative approaches to extend and enhance STEM education for young people,” said Maya Ajmera, President and CEO of the Society for Science & the Public and Publisher of Science News.
The funding Electric Girls received will be used to purchase materials and pay instructors in New Orleans this fall.
