This Saturday, March 23, Women Techmakers powered by GDG New Orleans is hosting our first annual International Women’s Day Celebration. This event will highlight the stories of our growing female community of designers, developers, and technology entrepreneurs.
In our first year, we’re trying to significantly increase the participation of women in our local tech community. Thus, it will be a conference for women in all roles in technology and welcomes anyone who identifies as a woman in any way that’s meaningful to them. Future events will welcome all genders.
We don’t have a specific theme this year, but we want to highlight women who have had the courage to question the status quo. Throughout history, change has often started with a question – and many of those questions have been asked by women who were bold enough to seek change. We will dig deep with the women we’ve invited to speak, to understand the challenges they’re trying to solve, and then celebrate the actions they’re taking to realize that change.
In addition to panels and talks, we’ll have a breakout workshop session. Attendees can choose between an Actions on Google Codelab or an #IamRemarkable workshop. The codelab will train attendees on building actions for the Google Assistant, used on multiple devices such as Google Home and Android. #IamRemarkable is a Google initiative empowering women and underrepresented groups to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond.
Space is limited for this conference, and all attendees must RSVP on the Meetup here.
We’d like to thank our sponsors for helping us provide an amazing event for free: Google, Revelry, Infinite Red, Mark, Radolo, Loyola University New Orleans Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Development, LookFar, and Clio + Calliope.
