Economic development agency Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) has launched a new initiative aimed at stimulating the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) ecosystem in Southeast Louisiana.
The Greater New Orleans Region One Center of STEM (GNOrocs) will be part of the state’s regional network of STEM centers and will help increase STEM education, participation, and advancement.
In addition to creating STEM programs, facilitating various partnerships, and compiling resources, GNOrocs is also on a mission to close the opportunity gap for underserved and underrepresented populations.
“STEM continues to be an economic driver in Louisiana and is a top priority of mine to increase participation and access to education in these fields,” said Louisiana State Senator Sharon Hewitt. “The Centers will be the backbone to driving collaboration and partnerships that are creating industry-driven solutions.”
Hewitt also shared that GNOrocs along with the other STEM centers will build awareness and create a strong ecosystem that showcases Louisiana as the go-to state for STEM talent.
GNO, Inc. has brought on Daphne Barnes as the new STEM Director to oversee GNOrocs. For more information, visit gnorocs.org.
