New Orleans Entrepreneurship and Innovation Receive Significant National Media Attention

“Seasoned brain gain,” and the, “third wave,” are both terms frequently heard when referring to New Orleans’ business climate and entrepreneurship. Business Editor for The Atlantic Derek Thompson was sent to New Orleans on assignment during Entrepreneur Week to explore just that– what business opportunities and challenges are present in a city that focuses entrepreneurship. Also,  the National Journal published a conversation with Mayor Landrieu as part of a weeklong America360 series on New Orleans. He discusses how the city has become a magnet for all types of businesses.

Entrepreneur Expo Showcases Budding New Orleans Entrepreneurs

The 2013 New Orleans Entrepreneur Expo seeks to highlight the next generation of entrepreneurs. The Expo will attract all types of businesses and startups in a relaxed environment. The event will take place at Cafe Istanbul in the New Orleans Healing Center from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 20th, 2013. It is an event not to miss if you are planning to start a business, in the idea phase, or if you have recently started a business in the metro area.

What Can You Do with Your Idea in 54 hours?

This is the question posed by Startup Weekend, a global movement rallying together aspiring and active entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into viable startups. Last Friday, over 50 participants, from coders and designers to CPAs, MBAs, and other curious business types, came together for the first ever New Orleans Startup Weekend.

Federated Sample’s Platform Fulcrum Reaches 2M Completed Survey Interviews in 2013

Fulcrum is Federated Sample’s open and customizable online sampling platform that hit one million survey interviews for the year back in February. Today (April 9) the platform hit two million completed survey interviews.

Audiosocket Confirms New Partnership with YouTube Mega-Channel StyleHaul

Popular music licensing and technology company Audiosocket has expanded its roster of strategic partnerships with another top company– representatives have confirmed a partnership with YouTube channel StyleHaul. Audiosocket will provide the channel with curated, quality music for its fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content instead of the more typical “stock” music provided by some competitors.

Tulane Dean Elected Next President of National Engineering Group

Tulane’s School of Science and Engineering Dean, Nicholas Altiero, has been elected president-elect of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He has been working with the organization for years and is the current chairman of its Engineering Deans Council. Altiero’s begins his term as ASEE president-elect in June and as president in June 2014.

Innovation Festival in Lafayette Announces INNOV8 Awards Winners

INNOV8 is a showcase of creativity and innovation in Lafayette, La. The festival is a project of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. Now in its second year, it boasts over 40 events and expects thousands in attendance from April 19 to April 26, 2013 for the eight-day festival of innovation. The INNOV8 Awards, given to top innovators in Acadiana who inspire the next generation to dream big, announced its winners on April 11.

NBC News’ Education Nation Brings “Power Week” to New Orleans

Education Nation New Orleans kicked off last Friday, providing a week’s worth of programming focused on education challenges and opportunities throughout the area. The week hopes to be another implication for the future of education and education technology in New Orleans. The Education Nation Bus will travel to schools throughout the area as local WDSU reporters highlight education success stories.

GrowCo’s Inaugural Enrich Your Pitch Contest Yields Indoor Playground as Big Winner

Another influx of technologists, business owners, and startup enthusiasts are in New Orleans this week for Inc Magazine’s Grow Your Company Conference (GrowCo). The fast-paced, 90-second pitch competition, Enrich Your Pitch, wrapped up Thursday’s sessions during GrowCo. Inc’s all-star panel of seasoned experts included Howard Tullman, Nord Brodsky, and Allison Fass and was hosted by Scott Case. An indoor inflatable playground and party space company called BooKoo Bounce took home the prize.
