LSU and Governor Jindal Reveal Plans for Transformational Technology and Cyber Research Center

Louisiana State University (LSU) and Gov. Bobby Jindal have announced the creation of the LSU Transformational Technology and Cyber Research Center (TTCRC). The Center will pursue both federal and commercial research projects in applied technology fields, with a target of raising $34.5 million over the initial few years. Specific reported goals are to reach at least $10 million in research contracts by Jan. 1, 2016, and $30 million in research contracts by July 1, 2017.

Growing Good Eggs is Hiring, Ramping Up Operations

Good Eggs, an online grocery store that offers locally grown and prepared food, has been operating in New Orleans since May 2013, and is still growing. Good Eggs has just launched a few brand new features on the site. The site redesign, announced last week, will make shopping even easier. Good Eggs says the new site will include highly requested items such as a search feature, filtering, and easy reordering based on past purchases. As the team continues to grow, it will have to soon expand once again. They are in the process of moving into a new location in Gert Town as they outgrow their current warehouse space.

Baton Rouge Software and Design Company Joins Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies List

Each year, Inc. Magazine publishes a list of the 5000 fastest growing, privately-owned companies throughout the United States. The Baton Rouge-based development and design firm Envoc came in at the number 2652 spot on the 2014 Inc. 5000 list. Envoc creates customized solutions, such as software services, corporate brand and web presence, and mobile application development, for its clients.

Southeastern Regional Fund Launches South Coast Angel Fund II

The South Coast Angel Fund is a member-managed, early stage, venture capital fund designed to utilize the capital, resources, and expertise of their members to generate financial return through equity investments in early-stage companies. Yesterday, the angel group announced the launch of the South Coast Angel Fund II, which will commit to investments for which it has sufficient cash-in-hand to complete the transaction.

 

New Orleans’ TrueSchool Emerges as Leader in Education Reform

TrueSchool is an applied research and action design firm that is reimagining the pathway to reform in public schools. “Stand out” teachers partner with TrueSchool to redesign classrooms, schools, and systems. Over the summer, founder Amy Vreeland facilitated the Summer Design Program in Chicago. The five-week professional learning program brought together 135 educations from 40 public schools in the city to tackle the most pressing issues in education. The challenges faced were then turned into working prototypes.
