Buyer Chosen for New Orleans ArtWorks Building
With a $6.2 million purchase price, a buyer has finally been chosen for the ArtWorks building, located just off of Lee Circle at 725 Howard Avenue. After months of debate, the Arts Council of New Orleans announced it had sold the property (estimated to close within 60 days) to the Culinary and Hospitality Institute (NOCHI).

Louisiana Startup Benefits Schools Through ‘Innovation to Groupon’
Scoupons (an affiliate of the Save More Network) taps into consumption by addressing the needs of consumers, businesses and schools. Through the platform, consumers save money, schools earn needed funds and advertisers grow their business. Similar to the daily deal site Groupon, Scoupons–or Groupon on steroids– offers daily deals to buyers but takes it one step further and donates 50% of the purchase price to the school of choice.

Moonbot Studios Launches Lollipop 3: Eggs of Doom
Shreveport-based Moonbot Studios has released yet another well-received animated game. Moonbot’s latest, Lollipop 3: Eggs of Doom, is now available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Lollipop 3 features include a fast-paced, multi-touch, arcade-style gameplay, evolving mechanics that are easy to learn but difficult to master, upgrades and modes that can be earned or purchased, Facebook and Game Center leaderboards, and creatures brought to life by the studio.

Local radio producer Grant Morris has an idea about a better way to help New Orleans businesses. He writes, “I have been mystified of late by the growing epidemic of New Orleans business-pitching competitions… An enormous amount of energy and preparation goes into creating and rehearsing a good pitch to be delivered to an audience. Instead of investing hours of preparation for pitches, what if the entrepreneurs sat in a quiet office with the hosts and asked for advice in areas in which they really need guidance other than the art of pitching?”
24-Hour Design Challenge Brings Together Louisiana Creatives for Innovative Health Project
Over 35 designers, developers, marketers and creatives from various cities across Louisiana traveled to New Orleans over the weekend to participate in the 2014 Louisiana “Design-A-Thon,” a 24-hour, intensive design challenge sponsored by Doublet Media. The Design-A-Thon team has selected Louisiana nonprofit, the New Orleans Council for Community & Justice (NOCCJ), and its revolutionary youth wellness program called “The Great Health Race” as the focus of this year’s challenge.

Loyola Entrepreneurship Association Awards Cash Prizes to Students at Pitch Competition
The Loyola University New Orleans Entrepreneurship Association, founded and chartered just last semester, recently put on a pitch event called “Pitch it, Loyno!,” in which local students could put their ideas to the test in front of a live audience. Students were able to pitch either original business ideas or their existing business models to a panel of three judges last Thursday (January 30) evening. Louisiana Natives Seek Electric Car World Driving Record with Tesla Model S
Two Louisiana natives, Randy Denmon and Dean Lewis, decided to drive Denmon’s Tesla Model S 85 from McAllen, Texas to the Panama Canal. In a week when the media was buzzing about the two Tesla Model S cars planning a trip from Los Angeles to New York City, not many knew about the Louisianan somewhat spur of the moment trip. New Orleans Tech Companies Join Forces to Sponsor Main Stage at French Quarter Fest
Stemmed from an effort to raise awareness about technology employment opportunities in New Orleans, several local companies have joined forces to sponsor the new “Big River Stage”– the main stage– at the 2014 French Quarter Festival. The announcement was made today by Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.), GE Capital Technology Center, and the New Orleans Business Alliance. Participating companies include 365 Connect, Carrollton Technology Partners, CotingaSoft, Fat Happy Media, Federated Sample, GE Capital Technology Center, LaunchPad, NOVO Communications, Search Influence, Touch Studios, and TurboSquid.
MiniVax Enters into Exclusive Agreement with University of Rochester
New Orleans-based MiniVax specializes in the research and development of novel treatments for opportunistic infections, specifically, at the moment, for Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP). The company has announced its new exclusive option agreement with agreed licensing terms with the University of Rochester in New York. Minivax will develop a monoclonal antibody for the treatment of PCP, which is of interest to the university.
